Weekend Services

Service Times:

  • Sundays @ 9:30am, at First Baptist Church, 2495 76th ave.

    • Sunday School begins after praise and worship.

What to Expect:

Services at FBC are centred around worship through song, worship through prayer, worship through the right preaching of the Word and worship through communion. The aim of our lives and no less the aim of our services is to give all glory to God, for “For from him and through him and to him are all things.” (Romans 11.36)

  • Praise: C.S. Lewis once defined praise this way: “We delight to praise what we enjoy because praise not merely expresses but completes the enjoyment.” Praise is the culmination of our enjoyment of something; and that something is not fully enjoyed until it erupts in praise. And so we corporately sing praises to our God at every service as a completion and expression of our joy in Him.

  • Prayer: “Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” (Matthew 18.19-20) Although the context of this verse is church discipline, the principle of it is that there is an added power to the prayers of a multitude. And so we refuse to pass up the opportunity every time we gather to cry out to the Lord with requests saturated in thanksgiving.

  • Preaching: We practice expository preaching. This is not to say that each Sunday is a verse by verse commentary, but rather that our focus is on unpacking Biblical truth. Through careful, prayerful, laborious and Spirit empowered study we aim to look at the text, draw out what is there (no matter how uncomfortable it may be at times), gaze upon it, rejoice in it, and make accurate and God glorifying application of it to our lives. Preaching is the centre of our services because we believe that nothing is more primary and powerful in drawing our eyes to the glorious wonders of God than His Word.

  • Communion: The gospel is not just the backstory to our lives, it is everything. It is our salvation, our motivation, our power and our hope. We aim to be gospel saturated people, completely compelled by the love of Christ. And so we celebrate the Lord’s supper every week because we want to remember the cross together every week. We practice open communion. Every Christian is invited to join us, no matter which Bible believing Church they may call home.

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Hebrews 10.24-25
